South Stormont is situated on the broad St. Lawrence River, west of the City of Cornwall, a community of just under 50,000. The Township is 1 hour west of Montreal, 1 hour south of Ottawa, and 3 ½ hours from Toronto. Located in the heart of Canada’s highway and rail ‘Corridor-route’, South Stormont provides rapid and efficient access to three of the nation’s four principal metropolitan markets. South Stormont has international access, too. There are bridge crossings in Cornwall, 10 minutes east, and at Johnstown, 30 minutes west. These two international access points to the United States puts you within a few hours drive of Syracuse, Buffalo, Boston and New York. In addition, there are two, international airports, each within an hour’s drive. A business location in South Stormont requires available land and we’re happy to oblige. The Municipality offers in excess of 130 acres of fully serviced land in its two industrial parks. Services include Municipal water and sewer along with natural gas. The Ingleside Park includes all of these with available fibre optic, too. It is also less than 1 minute from highway 401. Rural setting, strategic location, and a choice of transportation, it’s an unbeatable combination. Food giant Kraft thinks so. It operates two major plants in the region. Here’s how a former plant Manager viewed the region. “From a business perspective, Cornwall gives us the resources we need. And because so many of our employees live near the plants, they enjoy a quick and easy drive to work. I believe that plays an important role in their performance and positive attitude on the job.” Mike Mahoney echoes the Kraft comment with a slightly different perspective. Mahoney is the General Manager of Dynamic Closures, a leading manufacturer and global distributer of custom tailored grilles and closures. “It’s worth reminding people about this terrific location with the woods on one side and Lake St. Lawrence on the other. I can leave the office at ten to six and be home by six.” Negotiating in South Stormont will prove to be a hassle free undertaking. A municipality of just under 12,000 people, its administration hasn’t yet learned to be bureaucratic. Better yet, its Economic Development officer is at your service to open the doors, provide the contacts, and assist in the integration process. A telephone call to 1-800-265-3915 will put you in direct contact. E-mail works just as well and your economic development contact is hilton@southstormont.ca. Locating in South Stormont can mean uprooting a family but we’d like to think it’s a positive step. Living in South Stormont gives you the choice of both urban and rural areas. You’ll find cordial, comfortable and safe neighbourhoods in one of the many hamlets that are scattered throughout the Township.
