Sewer Lines & Grinder Pumps!

The Township of South Stormont has experienced issues recently at wastewater pumping stations, due to the incidence of residents flushing items such as wet wipes, personal hygiene wipes and Swiffer pads down the toilet.  When homeowners flush these types of products, it causes serious problems within the sewage system and clogs the pumps used to transfer sewer waste to the treatment plant.  This, inevitably, results in costly emergency repairs which you, the taxpayer, will ultimately be responsible for.

Many household products are labelled and marketed as DISPOSABLE and/or FLUSHABLE.  Many baby and adult personal hygiene products, along with household wipes and cleaning towelettes   are labelled both disposable and flushable.

 THEY ARE NOT!

Unlike toilet paper, these products do not break down once they are flushed.  They can cause blockages in your sewer, especially older pipelines that may have grease, roots, or other obstructions already existing.  A repair of your sewer line can leave you with a very costly sewer repair.

When these products make their way into the public sewer system, they collect together, causing very large obstruction and clogs in the main collector lines and get tangled in pump stations requiring repair or replacement of equipment.
