Shanyn Brown has been a standout athlete since a young age -first as a basketball player in the Cornwall Lions basketball ranks, where she played Major Atom AA through to Major Midget AA. Along the way, the various Lions teams won several prestigious tournaments, and Shanyn received numerous individual awards as well, such as game MVP's and the EOBA's Major Atom Hustler of the Year Award in 2004-05.

Since entering high school at Rothwell-Osnabruck, she has also excelled at track & field, placing first in SD&G in 2008 in javelin and second in discus. Her efforts qualified her for the EOSSA meet, where she placed second in javelin. This, in turn, qualified her for OFSSA, where, competing against the best in Ontario, she finished a very respectable seventh.

This past year, Shanyn again placed first in SD&G in javelin and 2nd in discus, with an injury preventing her from competing at EOSSA.
