Latest Update

  • July 17, 2020 - Play Structures, Picnic Tables and Benches
    • Play Structures, Picnic Tables and Benches will open on Friday, July 17. Please remember:

      • Physical distance with those outside of your social circle.
      • Wear a mask if physical distancing is not possible.
      • Sanitize your hands before and after using the play equipment.
    • Indoor Facilities: As part of the Province of Ontario's Stage 3 of re-opening, they have allowed for indoor recreation facilities to open. South Stormont has been working with the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) in order to open facilities safely while following the guidelines of the Province of Ontario and the EOHU. South Stormont's indoor recreation facilities will remain closed until at least August 31, this includes the Long Sault Arena, Community Hall, and Meeting Rooms. More information will be provided as we prepare to open. Thank you for your patience.

  • Parks and Recreation Update - June 24, 2020
  • St. Andrews West Outdoor Pool closed for 2020 season.
    • Splash Pads open with guidelines due to pandemic.
  • Parks and Recreation Update - June 11, 2020
    • Closure of indoor rental facilities including the South Stormont Community Hall, Long Sault Arena and Fire Hall meeting rooms will remain closed to private and public rental functions until at least August 31, 2020. 
    • Sports fields are now open for drop-in use with measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Users may access these facilities with members of their own household, or in small groups of 10 or less while using proper distancing and disinfection practices. Organized sports will not be permitted at this time, however when distancing measures are lifted these outdoor facilities will be ready for traditional rentals. 
    • Until further notice, South Stormont is not prepared to open the St. Andrews West Pool or Splash Pad facilities
  • Parks and Recreation Update - May 21, 2020
    • Recreation Programming: May 13, 2020 - Due in part to the closure of facilities, the uncertainty of distancing orders surrounding recreation programming, and the amount of time it would take to properly organize these activities, staff is forced to cancel Township minor sport programs for Spring/Summer 2020. Staff is researching all options to offer drop-in activities once it is deemed safe to continue with in-person programming. In the meantime, visit our website to take part in our Virtual Activities.

    • Recreation Rental Facilities: On April 22, 2020 South Stormont made the decision to extend the closure of public recreation facilities until at least June 30, 2020. On May 21, 2020 all South Stormont Tennis / Pickleball Court facilities will open, please continue to follow social and physical distancing while using the court. We encourage you to view the  Additional Court Guidelines due to COVID-19 before visiting the court to ensure you have all necessary equipment to participate.

    • Closed: Playgrounds, Sport Fields, Benches,Tables, Gazebos, Or publicly shared items/equipment that people touch or promotes gatherings.

    • Open: The South Stormont Recreation Trail is now open, please practice social and physical distancing by maintaining a two-metre distance between yourself and others. Tennis/Pickleball Courts

    • Use open park space at your own risk: Stay 6 feet (2 metres) away from other parks users, do not come to the park if you’re sick
    • The Waterfront Trail (along Highway 2), the Bird Sanctuary Trails, and the Long Sault Parkway are also closed. Please visit the St. Lawrence Parks Commission for more details. 
  • Township Extends Second Interim Tax Bill Due Date from May 29th to June 30th. Also Waive Interest and Penalties for May, June and July. 
  • Trillium Road Landfill Site Set to Re-open with New Guidelines and Procedures

  • 2020 Canada Day festivities in the Township of South Stormont have been cancelled
  • Updates to Building Permits and Inspections During COVID-19 Pandemic
    • Building permits will continue to be processed and issued, however construction and inspections on restricted construction projects can only begin once the Provincial ban has been lifted. 
  • Local Paramedics Seeking Community Support
    • Cornwall SDG Paramedic Services is reminding the community to only use 9-1-1 for emergencies to ensure our responders are available for real emergencies. 
  • Local Business Portal Launched to Encourage Shopping Local   
    • Let consumers know you are still open, share your service changes (delivery or pick up only, phone in orders, etc.), post modified business hours, and even include a simple, easy-to-use online store, all for FREE by visiting 
  • Garbage Bag Limit Increased During Pandemic
    •    Due to more families staying home, the Township has temporarily increased the bag limit for curbside garbage collection to three (3) bags per week,
  • United Counties of SDG, City of Cornwall, and United Counties of P&R Declare State of Emergency
    • The three regions of the Eastern Ontario Health Unit have jointly declared a State of Emergency, effectively granting the municipalities additional means to quickly and efficiently make decisions. Please click above for the joint news release from the three municipal governments. 
  • Building Permit/Inspection Services During COVID-19
    • The Building Department remain available for services. Please click above for details about how to schedule and arrange for these services. 
  • Township Provides Specific Details Regarding Property Tax Bill and Water and Wastewater Bill Extensions
    • Property tax bills have been extended to April 30, 2020. Those who have pre-authorized payments ON THE DUE DATE will have their withdrawl on April 30, 2020. Those on monthly pre-authorized payment plans or post-dated cheques will have their withdrawls on April 1, 2020, unless a written request is made to
    • Water and wastewater bills have been extended to 60 days following the billing date.
  • Township of South Stormont to Begin Live Streaming Council Meetings
    • Due to orders to limit public gatherings, the Township are asking the public, media and non-essential staff to refrain from attending Council Meetings. Council Meetings will begin to be live streamed effective immediately (Monday, March 23, 2020) and can be viewed on our Council Meetings and Agendas page. 
  • March 25 Regular Council Meeting Cancelled, Special Council Meeting scheduled for Monday, March 23, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.
    • The Special Council Meeting will be closed to the public due to the Town Hall/Council Chambers building closure. The meeting will be recorded and posted to the Council Meeting and Agendas page the following day. 
    • The Special Council Meeting  will have light agenda with only pressing, time sensitive matters considered. 
  • Trillium Road Landfill Site closed to the public until further notice
    •  The landfill closure is effective immediately, however will not affect regular curbside garbage/recycling collection
  • Township of South Stormont Implements Burn Ban to limit responses required from Fire and Emergency Services.
    • While South Stormont Fire and Emergency Services has the resources available in the event of an emergency, in order to ensure those resources remain available, we are trying to limit the number of responses to attend.
  • Council Amends Interim Tax Bill Due Dates, Closes Long Sault Arena for the Season, Postpones Online Recreation Program Registration - March 16, 2020
    • Due to the issues surrounding the potential spread of COVID-19, Council has decided to delay the due date for interim property tax bills from March 31 to April 30. During this time, no additional interest will be added to tax bills. With Town Hall closed to the public, residents will need to take advantage of one of the alternative payment methods available. 
    • Due to the costs to operate and maintain the ice surface of the Long Sault Arena, coupled with the probability of an extended period of ice rental cancellations, Council has decided to close the Long Sault Arena for the season, effective immediately. 
    • Online recreation program registration was intended to begin on Monday, March 16, however due to the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, registration has been postponed until further notice. While the hope is to run recreation programming as planned, the potential spread of the virus has raised uncertainties as to whether this remains probable. 
    • The Volunteer Appreciation Gala has been postponed. 
  • Town Hall and Facilities Closed to the Public - March 16, 2020
    • Staff remain available to assist residents, however in-person meetings are not currently permitted. Residents can contact staff by telephone at (613) 534-8889, or by email. Emails can be directed to individual staff, or to for general inquiries.

    •    The Province of Ontario has launched a toll-free phone line to provide support to Ontario businesses who have questions about the province's recent emergency order to close at-risk workplaces.
