Community Emergency Preparedness Grant Approved to Launch Drone Program

The Township of South Stormont has been announced as a recipient of the Community Emergency Preparedness Grant from the Provincial Ministry of Emergency Preparedness and Response, receiving $28,820 to support the launch of a new municipal drone program.

The funding will support the purchase of two drones to enhance emergency response capabilities across the Township. The drones will be used to support response efforts during floods, fires, and search and rescue operations, providing real-time aerial information to assist emergency personnel in making informed decisions quickly and safely.

The grant also includes funding to train and license four Township employees, ensuring the equipment can be safely and effectively used across multiple departments and deployed when and where it is needed most.

“This investment strengthens our ability to respond to emergencies while also supporting day-to-day municipal operations,” said Mayor Bryan McGillis. “We are grateful to the Ministry of Emergency Preparedness and Response and Minister Jill Dunlop for recognizing the importance of proactive emergency planning and for approving this funding. This program will help keep our community and our responders safe.”

The Township of South Stormont continues to invest in initiatives that strengthen emergency preparedness, enhance public safety, and support efficient municipal service delivery.
