Student Bursaries

To invest in the youth of our community, the Township of South Stormont has developed an annual bursary for residents of South Stormont graduating from secondary school and will be attending a post secondary institution in a program 2 years or more in length. $1,000 will be awarded annually to three students pursuing a full-time post secondary education program in any field of study.

Please review the South Stormont Student Bursary Policy outlining the process and full eligibility requirements.

The 2026 South Stormont Student Bursary application period is now open. Applications will be reviewed and recipients will be contacted directly.

Applicants must fill out the application form, which includes an essay indicating why you are a good candidate for the South Stormont Student Bursary (maximum 750 words), a copy of your letter of acceptance for fulltime post-secondary education (minimum 2 year program), and a resume outlining your work and volunteer experience.

2025 Student Bursary Recipients

At the Regular Council Meeting on June 25, 2025, the South Stormont Student Bursary recipients were announced. The following are excerpts from the successful recipients.

Sophia Labrosse, Algonquin College – Architectural Technician

“I am about to graduate this June from Grade 12 at Tagwi Secondary School and I have been accepted into Algonquin College Architectural Technician Co-Op Program starting this coming September. I am very excited to start! The Architectural Technician is the first step in my career goals as I plan to continue in this Program over the next 5 years towards the BSc Degree in Architecture and Building Science.”

Treyson Garner, University of Ottawa – Political Science

“I am planning to study Political Science at the University of Ottawa with the goal of becoming a Crown Attorney. I also serve as an Infantryman in the Canadian Armed Forces (SDG Highlanders), where I’ve learned the value of discipline, leadership, and service. My aim is to combine my education and military experience to give back to my community and support the justice system. This bursary will help me focus on my studies and continue working toward those goals.”

Nathaniel Grenier, Queen’s University – Bachelor of Science (Honours)/Life Sciences and Biochemistry

“In the fall I am headed to Kingston to pursue a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Life Sciences and Biochemistry at Queen's University. After my four year program, I plan to earn a doctorate of Optometry degree at University of Waterloo or University of Montreal. Eventually, I hope to return to the SD&G area to begin my  career as an Optometrist at a local clinic, and, one day, to open a clinic of my own.”
