After a pause in the national Canada Post Strike at the end of 2024, negotiations between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) continue. Labour disruption is possible as early as May 22.
While an agreement may be reached to avoid disruption, the Township is advising residents and stakeholders that a Canada Post strike could impact Township services, such as receiving property tax or utility bill payments by mail, vendor payments, planning application notices, or other mailed services.
Below are options to consider for Township services should a Canada Post strike occur.
Water Bills and Property Tax Bills
Interim Property Tax Bills were mailed in early March for the March and May installments, with the next installment due on May 30th. Should Canada Post experience a labour disruption, this would impact receipt of payments for property or utility bills sent by mail.
Below are available payment options that will be accepted should there be a strike.
Payment Options During Strike
The Township of South Stormont offers the following alternative payment options for property taxes, water utility bills, and more:
- In-Person: Payments for a number of services can be made at Town Hall (2 Milles Roche) Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Financial Institution Payments – Telephone/Online Banking: Property tax and water utility payments may be made at any financial institution or through your bank’s telephone or online banking services.
- Pre-authorized Payment Plans: Property tax pre-authorized payment forms and water utility pre-authorized payment forms are available online for monthly or installment payments. To view pre-authorized payment options or to register, visit our Pre-Authorized Payments page.

Alternatively, Garbage Bag Tags can be purchased in-person at the Township Office, Foodland Ingleside, or Crossroads Convenience in St. Andrews West.
Vendor Payments
If you are a vendor with the Township expecting payments, please ensure you are set up for Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) payments by emailing accountspayable@southstormont.ca for the EFT form.
Planning Applications
During a postal strike, the Township will be unable to mail planning application notices to applicants and neighbouring properties. All planning application notices will be posted to our Current Development Applications Page and shared via social media until the strike has ended.
