The Township of South Stormont is proud to introduce a new Rain Barrel Program that offers residents an affordable way to support water conservation efforts at home. Through this partnership with RainBarrel.ca, rain barrels will be available to the community at a discounted cost.

Did you know a small 8′ x 10′ area of roof will generate 50 gallons (189L) of water during a 1-inch rain event?

Rain Barrel Program Details

The Township of South Stormont has partnered with RainBarrel.ca to offer a variety of rain barrels to the community at a discounted price to help support water conservation efforts.

Each rain barrel purchased also contributes to the Environmental Action Committee to support future initiatives that will serve the community and support environmental programs.

How to Participate

  • Order Online: Choose from a range of rain barrel styles and accessories, priced between $55 and $250, through the Township’s dedicated online store (link below).

  • Deadline to Order: All orders must be placed by July 4, 2025.

  • Pickup or Delivery:

    • Pickup Event: Collect your rain barrel at our truckload pickup event at the Township Office on July 15, 2025, between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. To pick up your rain barrel free of charge at the pickup event, choose "Local Pickup" at checkout. 

    • Home Delivery: For added convenience, home delivery is available for an additional $10 fee, which can be selected during checkout.  To have your rain barrel delivered to your home address, select "RainBarrel.ca Delivery" at checkout. Home delivery is only available to residents of South Stormont.

 What is a Rain Barrel?
Simply put, they are big barrels that collect rain water, by directing your gutters or down spout to it. At the bottom of the barrel is a spigot, that you can attach a garden hose to, or fill your watering can from. You can also have multiple barrels that connect to one another, increasing the amount of water you are able to collect and store.
 Why Use a Rain Barrel?
Rain barrels are a simple, cost-effective, and eco-friendly way to collect and store rainwater from rooftops. This stored water can be used for outdoor purposes such as watering gardens, lawns, and flower beds, or topping up pools. Using rainwater helps reduce reliance on municipal water systems, particularly during dry summer months when water demand is at its highest.

 Can I Leave My Rain Barrel Out Over Winter?

We recommend winterizing your rain barrel by draining it and turning it upside down, so water does not accumulate and freeze.

RainBarrel.ca uses reclaims food-grade barrels and re-purposes them as rain barrels. Barrels were once used to transport fruits and vegetables and now offer years of reliable service as rain barrels.
